Laird Doman
I built an AI chief of staff that runs my business operations — scheduling, email, research, reporting, client follow-up. Now I help other business owners do the same, starting wherever they are.
What I've built with AI
Most AI consultants talk about AI. I built a full AI operations system for my own business and use it daily. Here's what's running right now:
- 🤵 Tony — AI Chief of Staff. A custom AI agent that manages my calendar, monitors email, drafts communications, runs research, coordinates tasks, and handles reporting. He operates 24/7 with structured workflows and human oversight on anything that goes out the door.
- 📊 AI Visibility Reports. An automated pipeline that audits how AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity) describe any business — generated, quality-checked, and delivered without me touching it.
- 📧 Automated client communications. Follow-up sequences, intake processing, and delivery emails — all scripted, scheduled, and reliable.
- 🔍 Research and analysis pipelines. Market research, competitor analysis, and SEO audits that used to take days now run in minutes.
- 🏗️ This entire website. Every page, every landing page, every form — built and maintained with AI assistance. Not generated slop. Reviewed, edited, and approved by a human.
Tony — The AI Chief of Staff
Tony isn't a chatbot. He's a structured AI operations system that runs on a local server with access to my tools, files, and workflows. Here's what makes him different from asking ChatGPT a question:
- Persistent memory — he remembers past conversations, decisions, and context across sessions
- Real tool access — he can read email, check calendars, run scripts, manage files, and send messages
- Structured workflows — report generation, client follow-up, and monitoring run on schedules, not vibes
- Multiple AI models — routes simple tasks to fast/cheap models and complex work to powerful ones
- Human oversight — nothing goes to a client without approval. External actions require confirmation.
Building Tony took months of iteration. But the principles behind it — structured AI workflows, clear boundaries, human-in-the-loop — are things any business can start applying today.
My approach
Start small, start real
You don't need to automate everything on day one. Pick one workflow that eats your time, improve it with AI, and build from there.
Tools, not magic
AI is a tool. A powerful one. But it needs direction, guardrails, and someone who understands the business. That's you.
Visibility matters now
AI platforms are already recommending businesses to people. If you're not showing up in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, you're invisible to a growing audience.
Not a tech bro. A business operator.
I'm COO at NACD, where I run operations and technology for a national organization. I've built and sold service businesses, invested in real estate since my twenties, and been in crypto since 2012.
I came to AI not as a developer but as a business owner who was tired of doing everything manually. I taught myself by building — and now I help other people skip the learning curve.
